Melburnians continue saving water at record levels

This week’s update confirms a new national water report 1 findings that Melburnians are saving water at record levels - more than any other major city in Australia.

The average daily water usage for the week was 988 million litres. This is 24% less than the 1990’s autumn average of 1,294 million litres, demonstrating Melbournian’s are the wisest water users in the country.

With consumption remaining low, generally average rainfall for the week, and the cooler weather, storages have dropped by only 0.34% (5,942million litres).

Melbourne’s water storages are now 31.4% full (556,773million litres). At the same time last year, water storages were 30.0% full (531,935 million litres).

Stage 3a restrictions remain in place until at least 30 June, 2008. Further details on water restrictions are available by visiting the Our Water Our Future website or by contacting the government water retailers.
