26 BILLION LITRES MORE WATER IN STORAGE THAN LAST YEAR

Melbourne’s water storages are now 31.1% full (551,569 million litres). At the same time last year, water storages were 29.7% full (526,002 million litres). There is 26 billion litres more water in storage than the same time last year.

The average daily water usage for the week was 988 million litres. This is 24% less than the 1990’s autumn average of 1,294 million litres – another excellent water saving effort.

Average rainfall and cooler weather over the week helped keep consumption figures low. However despite the rain, the catchments are still quite dry and rainfall runoff to storages was 24.2% below average. Storages dropped by 0.29% (5,204 million litres).

Stage 3a restrictions remain in place until at least 30 June, 2008. Further details on water restrictions are available by visiting the Our Water Our Future website or by contacting the government water retailers.
