STORAGES DOWN BY 0.36%

Melbourne’s water storages are now 29.9% full (529,864 million litres), compared to 28.7% (or 508,912 million litres) at the same time last year. This represents close to 21 billion litres more water in storage.

Melburnians are carrying over their water saving habits into Winter, with an average daily water use of 971 million litres now compared with the seasonal average of 1,108 litres per day in the 1990s.

June is typically the low-point for storages because it represents the end of drier months and the start of cooler, wetter weather. Continued water savings by households and business, plus winter rains over the catchments, will help storages move back up.

Stage 3a restrictions are in place until at least June 30, 2008. Further details on water restrictions are available by visiting the Our Water Our Future website or by contacting the government water retailers.
