Approval is required for any new or modified stormwater connection into a drain, watercourse or open channel controlled by Melbourne Water.

What is a stormwater connection?

Stormwater outlet
A stormwater outlet connection refers to a connection of stormwater from a development to a Melbourne Water open waterway or open drain.

Stormwater inlet
A stormwater inlet connection refers to a connection of stormwater from a development to a Melbourne Water underground drain.

Application process for stormwater connections

Step 1
Read the following information before completing the application process.

Melbourne Water prefers any new stormwater connection to be made to the council system. Documented evidence must be provided from council nominating Melbourne Water’s drain / watercourse as the legal point of discharge before an application is processed.

Complete the application form and the Melbourne Water standard drawings:

Submit the application form and all relevant documents and plans to the Asset Services Team. Melbourne Water’s standard drawing(s) should be used as a guide when creating your plans. Please note your plans should reflect site specific information.
