Target 155

Water storages have dropped by 0.2% of capacity after a week of no rainfall.

The decline represents an overall decrease of 4.3 billion litres.

The major catchments received no rain over the past week, compared with the long-term average for the period, 13.5 mm.

As a result, streamflow into the major reservoirs was also below the historical average for this time of year.

The 2.4 billion litres of streamflow into the major reservoirs was 18.5% below the average of 3.1 billion litres.

Storages are now 34.5% (624.6 billion litres) full, compared with 30.0% (531.1 billion litres) at the same time last year - a difference of 93.5 billion litres.

Storages typically decline in March and without consistent rainfall, this year will be no exception.

Melburnians helped mitigate the storage drop by meeting the water consumption target of 155 litres per person per day for the second week in a row.

Average daily household water use was 155 litres each.

More information on restrictions and tips on how to reach the target are available from Target 155 or by contacting the government water retailers.

Stage 3a restrictions and Target 155 are currently in place.
